Ministry is any activity which furthers the work and purpose of Jesus Christ.

Mission Update for 2023:

We raised over $51,000 this year from our rummage sales!

2024 was our largest mission group to date! 18 adults and 6 youth. Four homes were built in January. We also provided a water filter, bunk beds and bedding for the children in each family and $100 of groceries to get each family started in their new home.

Also, members of each building team provided new items for the home such as: hand & shower towels for their new bathroom, shower caddy, shampoo, conditioner, soap, over the door hooks, and activity/toys for the children.

The Village of Mano De Leon: due to such a successful year we are able to donate $150 per month to contribute to the cost of the food bags for this village where 19 families live. It is a very remote village. The food bags consist of basic staples such as: beans, sugar, rice, milk, cereal, oil & oatmeal.

While there in January, the mission team provided a soup kitchen meal, a piñata party and toys for the children of Mano De Leon.

While our rummage sales were so blessed we were also able to donate many items to local charities: Willis Dady, Marion Food Pantry, Salvation Army, Central Furniture Rescue, His Hands Clinic, Mission of Hope, Olivet, Habitat for Humanity Restore, and many items that found a new home inside our church.

Building a home in Guatemala

Thank you for continually supporting this mission.

Snacks for Wilkins Elementary School

Donated snacks go to students that don’t eat lunch until 1:00pm and cannot afford to bring a snack from home.

Thank you again for all you do! The students and teachers greatly appreciate this ministry.

Marion Cares

Marion Cares is a local nonprofit that coordinates with the Linn-Mar and Marion Independent School Districts to meet the needs of children in our community.

Since it’s beginning, Marion Christian Church has been a supporter of this organization.  Fun Fact: before the derecho MCC housed the Marion Cares office in our church and we supplied our church van for use.

MCC continues to coordinate with Marion Cares at their new facility and in addition to financial support, annually we provide backpacks and school supplies to students as a part of the Marion Cares Backpack to School program. In 2022 alone this program served over 600 children in our community.

Every October we collect new winter coats, gloves, hats, clothing, and boots to be distributed at the Marion Cares Truck or Treat Winter Clothing Drive

Each Christmas we adopt a certain number of families and display our Angel Tree with listed gifts. Each child is then guaranteed to get 4 gifts to open for the holidays.

We continue to respond to various other needs that arise as Marion Cares works with Marion Independent and Linn-Mar schools to meet the necessities of local families.

Matthew 25 - Annual Transform Week

Spend the day helping a homeowner in the Taylor & Time Check neighborhoods with home repair and maintenance projects.

All skill levels and ages welcome.

We had a great time working together, helping an elderly neighbor with yard maintenance this year. Our mighty 8 represented MCC well on June 26, 2023. If you are interested in being apart of the team next year Matthew 25 has announced the dates for the 9th Annual Transform Week: June 24-28, 2024.

MCC Inclusivity Team &

Marion Affirming Congregations

In April of 2023, MCC partnered with First Presbyterian Church in Marion to form the Marion Affirming Congregations (MAC) to offer support and allyship to our LGBTQIA+ loved ones and community.

Since this partnership we have hosted a Youth Safe Space gathering, participated in the Cedar Rapids Pride Parade and welcomed friends to an informational booth at the CR Pride Fest!
